During this summer he completed Das Lied von der Erde and the orchestral sketches for his Symphony No. 9. However, Mahler would never hear these works performed. Their premieres, conducted by Bruno Walter (1876-1962) took place after Mahler's death. Das Lied von der Erde on 20-11-1911 in Munich and Symphony No. 9 on 26-06-1912 in Vienna.
